16th Annual Ten Commandments Hike

A Scout is Reverent
Saturday, February 19, 2011-Rain or Shine

This year SHAC will have three separate hikes. There will be a Downtown Hike which will feature some of the beautiful older churches of the Museum District. The North Hike will meander through wooded Kingwood and view newer sanctuaries. The Southwest Hike will tour beautiful Sugarland and will include newer sanctuaries and possibly a Hindu temple as in past years. Each hike will be at least five miles long.

Visit www.samhoustonbsa.org for more information on these hikes.

They can be used to meet requirements for all Cub Scouts, 2nd class, 1st class and Tenderfoot Scouts.

We will not be attending these events as a pack, but this information is available if you would like to attend with your family.

Pine Wood Derby

What a great pine wood derby we had tonight! Congrats to everyone in our pack who earned some belt loops and advancements, you boys did great!

Here are the Cubs-front row seats and eagerly awaiting their chance to race!

There were so many great cars-everyone put in such hard work on them, and the paint jobs were oustanding.
This year we got to use a timed track, it was so fun to see the split second differences in some of the races!
Congrats to our winners! Great job, boys!

Around the World in 80 Days

This summer SHAC will be offering a Cub Adventure Day Camp at Bovay Scout Ranch. The theme will be traveling around the world, and rumor has it that only fun activities will be allowed. Bovay offers activities like a water park, "shoot em up", panning at the mine, crafts and a large sports fields and many, many more activities. Right now SHAC is wondering who is interested in attending. The date has not been announced yet, but if this is something you would like your son to attend, please let us know and we will request more information.

PINE WOOD DERBY

Just a quick reminder!

Our Pinewood Derby is this coming Friday, January 21.

We will not be meeting Tuesday night the 18th.

Weigh-in begins at 6pm, with the actual derby starting at 6:30. Please give yourself a few minutes to weigh in your son's car with him. This will also be our pack meeting, so please let us know of any advancements or achievements your son has earned so he can receive the award.

After the boys race in their derby we have invited family to attend the event, as well as our Elders Quorums.

Some of you have asked about specific rues. We will be following the BSA rules which can be found at http://www.pinewoodderby.org/

If anyone is still in need of a car, they can be purchased at any of the three Scout shops in our area. Also, one of our Bear leader's has several sons who have won multiple Pinewood Derbies. They are practically professionals and wouldn't mind giving tips. If you would like to know who they are, ask your leaders and we will put you in contact with them!

University of Scouting 2011

The University of Scouting is a great opportunity for anyone to come and learn about the Scouting program. It is especially beneficial for leaders as there are classes offered on just about any subject that you feel you might need more information on. SHAC only puts this program on once a year, and it's coming up quick. There is still time to register online, which I would recommend so the classes you are interested in don't fill up too quickly.

It will be held at McArthur High School in Houston
February 12, 2011
